G'day cunts. I was drinking some Solo with ice yesterday (cos it was fucking 40 degrees in Perth), and it got me thinking back to the 1980s. Originally there was the Pinto man in these ads and they were selling Pinto lemon soda and then they changed it to Solo. Anyone else remember this?

Even google tells you nothing about this.  Shocked

Just saw new solo ad on tv. My boyf said solo used to be pinto. I said not in my lifetime. Had to google it to confirm. Your post only record on google. You didn't dream it.

I did a search on Solo and found it was introduced in 1973.

Nah mate, it's definitely for real. I was discussing the 80s with a mate of mine the other day and he definitely remembered the Pinto Man.

From another forum.......


Here is my recollection.

Pinto was the WA Solo as there was a Solo Drink Company that did home deliveries. From memory they had an ad campaign fronted by John K. Watts.

Schweppes couldn't use Solo as it was taken so they chose Pinto. My first recollection of the Pinto man were from around 1973/4.

Ahhh there we go. Looks like your investigation may have borne fruits.

I'm guessing Schweppes must have bought out the WA Solo company and then marketed Pinto as Solo. Which was a bit of a shame cos I rather liked the Pinto man. Smiley
