Rockingham makes The Punch 'Bogan Top 10'

ROCKINGHAM, one of WA's most maligned locations, has cracked a mention on a list of Australia's Top 10 Bogan suburbs.

The sleepy coastal suburb, which has grown into a city, is loved by locals, but is constantly the butt of jokes which denigrate its reputation as one of the "bogan capitals'' of WA.

Detractors cite the city's unemployment rate, driving habits and lifestyle, including a perception that it has a higher percentage of young single parents than other nearby urban areas.

In no particular order our top 10 bogan suburbs are:

Albion Park NSW, Dandenong Vic, Kambah ACT, Redcliffe Qld, Wyoming NSW, Salisbury SA, Chigwell Tas, Ipswich Qld, Rockingham WA, Moe Vic make up the Top 10.

So whadda youse lot reckon? Has Punch got it right?

I mighta thought Frankston in Victoria mighta been in there. Never been there meself but it's sposed to be a bit notorious. Where's PISSFARTER when you need him? He's the expert on these things.

Maybe 20 years ago it was Ippy and Redcliffe but now Inala/Logan is bogan central here in QLD...

Ippy is still up there, so is Bundaberg!

There was a rool good article tonight on Rockingham bogans on Today Tonight in Perth. 

They interviewed four very bogan sheilas all in their late teens or twenties. All single mothers. One of them drives a Commodore.  The show dealt briefly with what a bogan is. Kylie Mole and Kath and Kim got a mention, but it never mentioned bogan music and seemed to be more focussed on sheilas than blokes! But it was good to see bogans on telly again.
