BALGA and its surrounding suburbs is the welfare capital of WA, with almost a third of residents receiving Centrelink payments.

The area, in Perth's northern suburbs, had more parents, unemployed, aged and disabled people per capita claiming welfare than any other postcode district in the state.

Figures from Centrelink reveal the postcode area that takes in Balga, Mirrabooka, Nollamara and Westminster has 8680 people, or almost 30 per cent of residents, on one of the four types of benefits.

Mandurah suburbs came in second, with 15,911 people, or 27 per cent of the population, claiming a benefit.

Top three are Balga, Mandurah and Armadale. All pretty strong bogan areas.
