Greetings (or if you prefer g'day)
Now anyone viewing this is probably expecting to read some poorly spelt and racist rant about multicultralism and people who don't embrace the 'Australian' way of life. However, this thread will head in the complete opposite direction. Since your moderators obviously don't value the privacy of the people who post their opinions and provide others with their email addresses, I will provide mine personally at the end of the thread and will be happy for anyone to email me with a rational counter debate. If you wish to sink so low as to send me abuse, I'll do nothing but laugh, print them out and blu tack them to my wall. You'll never recieve a reply.
From what I've seen so far, many of you retain a great deal of 'aussie pride' and a love of australian culture . But when you really break it down and take away the influence of multicultralism, what culture does Australia really have? Think about it. What you call the Aussie way of life was brought over here by the British or created here by the British whilst they were colonising this land. Aussie culture doesn't exist. What we have instead is a melting pot of other cultures. What we have is something beautiful and should be cause enough for this land to be a political and social utopia. But it isn't, under the misguided hypothesis that people of other races destroy aussie culture.
This whole 'Aussie Pride' deal is just pure racism disguised as patriotism. But many of you might not even realise that. In the 50s and 60s, my family was spat on because they were Irish. The Irish were treated as second class and an insult to the 'australian' way of life despite the fact that without them, you wouldn't have a police force or trade unions. 1/3 of the soldiers who fought in the world wars were of an irish ancestry. Alot of the convicts who arrived here on the first fleet were also Irish yet were treated as Arabs, Asians, etc are treated today. Many of you on this blog would be of Irish ancestry and it's highly possible your ancestors would've suffered some degree of discrimination when coming to this country. I'd like you to think about that.
Many of you have written about a people of other races remaining together in groups, not learning the language, not adhering to the way of life and how you feel like they are judgemental and unaccepting of "true australian culture" But, how do you expect them to act? Do you expect them to jump in and mix considering the opinions that many of you have of them. How do you think they would feel if they came across a blog such as this filled with xenophobic and ignorant dickheads? Why they want to embrace a culture that is so hateful of them? I'm not saying you all fit under that umbrella but racism creates segregation.
Now, I'm going to finish with something that I know many of you will hate me for. If you want to talk about the true Australian way of life existing before colonisation, may I refer you to the indigenous australians whose culture the white settlers destroyed. Today many of them live in third world conditions and still are subjects of prejudice and injustice. Aren't you all a little bit hypocritical talking about a lack of pride in aussie culture when this country was based on the destroying of another culture?
In summary, "Bogans" are why I'm ashamed to be Australian. I think bogans do not represent aussie pride but rather the lower working class and uneducated (There would be exceptions) who do not the resources or learnings to think long and hard about these issues.
And before you reply with the typical "if you don't love it, leave it". Don't worry, I intend to leave as soon as possible.
P.S: I'm sure there will be spelling mistakes. It's 2:00 in the morning. I'm tired.
Kindest regards,
Miranda.
