AC Propulsion's tzero roadster is a reason to not give up on the electric vehicle. The tzero does 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, according to the company, and it does it on only 200 horsepower because of its light weight and torque.

The San Dimas, Calif.-based company says the tzero (pronounced "tee-zero," not "chair-o") has compared favorably in acceleration tests to Corvettes, Porsche 911s--and even a Ferrari F355, which it claims to have "out-accelerated...by eight car lengths" in one-eighth-mile drag races.

The low weight helps make the tzero so quick, but its torque--the turning force that pulls it off the line--is just as important, if not more. Conventional internal combustion engines need to rev to a certain rate before reaching their peak torque, but the tzero's torque peaks instantly, with 183 ft-lbs. available from 0 to 5,000 rpm.

And even for greenies this is such shit. Unless the govenment makes us get rid of the cars we got now, theres still gonna have to be servos. And I suppoose that air compresses itself eh? No, you gotta run loads of fuckin huge compressors and they run on electricity which is made at powerstations. And they run on coal. Shitloads of it. Burning coal pollutes heaps more than diesel. And that compressed airs gonna have to be transported to all these new 'air servos' so there's a shitload of new pipes being built all over the joint. Good news for tradies I guess. And what about the Nullabor? Do we build new pipelines out there or does the compressed air get trucked in? Unless each servo has its own diesel powered generator connected to an air compressor at each servo but then whats the fuckin point, burning diesel to compress air so that the new compressed air cars can go another 100ks to the next servo and fill up again. Here's a better idea, they could do the trial runs up NT way. http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/Beer_20Can_20Powered_20Car

It's a fuel cell car. all you do is swap a bottle.
As for running a compressor to compress the air we do have untapped solar power in Aus.

Meet the world's fastest electric car

Once I had it pointed straight on a long, clear patch of road, I tried again. Since the X1 has only one gear, no clutch, and all the torque available all the time, there was no power crescendo, no shift time - just an unbroken and terrifying blast of speed that felt as if we were going to achieve liftoff. It was hard to keep my watering eyes focused as we rocketed down the road with the hurricane-gale wind threatening to remove my hair, if not my head.

"Any advice?" I yelled. "Don't accelerate in the corners," Wright shouted back. "I had a friend plant it in a telephone pole trying that technique." After an hour of play, I realized I hadn't even tickled the limits of the thing. I'm in lust.

Wright's X1 prototype is, sadly, a one-off, so none of us can purchase this slingshot. The good news is that he is hard at work on his first production vehicle, which will be a plug-in series hybrid - electric with a diesel engine fueled by biodiesel to recharge the batteries when needed.

It will be a 50-states-legal sports car capable of doing 0 to 60 in around two seconds. Wright intends to make the production version still racecar-like in design but more practical than the X1's skeletal form (he promises a sticker under $200,000 and hopes to have it to market in about two years). There's much more, only I'll lose my place in line to drive it if I spill Wright's beans. But trust me on this: You'll want one.

I don't know what you people are so affraid of......the future is cleaner, funner and FASTER...
